Introduction

About this Recipe

By: Laura Sanchez

Lentils are a staple food in many countries and cuisines. They can be flavored with a variety of herbs and spices and go well with vegetables, meat, or both. While this dish is vegetarian, Laura offers some suggestions to add meat to this dish.

Laura is from Spain and arrived to Pittsburgh/USA in August 2019. She says: “The most difficult thing about coming to Pittsburgh was leaving my job and family and friends. But as I arrived here I find very kind people and I treasured very happy moments.” Laura is a member of IWAP, which shared recipes for the food blog. Laura says IWAP gave her a chance to meet new people, culture, and traditions and to get comfortable speaking English.

Instructions

Step 1
  • For lentils or any legume it is advisable to leave the night before in water.
Step 2
  • Wash the vegetables and peel the garlic, onion, carrots and potatoes. Cut potatoes into crack. You can cut the carrots into half a centimetre slices.
Step 3
  • When the vegetables are about 30 minutes away, put the lentils in.
Step 4
  • When the vegetables are about 30 minutes away, put the lentils in.
Step 5
  • When the vegetables are about 30 minutes away, put the lentils in.
Step 5
  • Check the water, paprika and salt (to taste). Never run out of water and when the lentils are cooking stir often with a spoon so that they do not burn down.
Step 7
  • Add salt to taste and when the lentils are to the taste of hardness, turn off the heat and keep them away.
Step 8
  • Separate the pepper, tomato, onion and garlic and pass it all through the mixer. So that it is not too pasty, put a little of the lentil broth. When everything is beaten put it back in the pot and stir so that everything mixes well.
Extra Tips

*If you have a fast cooker, put everything in the cooker for as long as it tells you they need the lentils and then follow the last step of whipping the vegetables.

**If you want, you can also add meat such as some bone or even chicken.
