Through the ISAC program, JFCS Pittsburgh offers trainings and presentations to community groups, service providers, and local government agencies to increase understanding about immigration trends and best practices to work with immigrants.

These topics are the focus of our presentations:

    • Navigating JFCS Programs: A Guide to Services Across Departments
      This training will provide participants with the opportunity to learn about the range of services offered by JFCS, with an in-depth focus on the Refugee & Immigration (R&I) department, including the ISAC program.
    • Understanding Migration: Context, Causes, and the U.S. Immigration System
      Participants will learn about global migration trends that have a local impact and will analyze the primary drivers that compel individuals and families to migrate. They will distinguish between the different legal pathways through which people enter the United States (e.g., refugee, asylee, immigrant visa, undocumented) and will examine how U.S. immigration policy has been shaped by political agendas, racial biases, and historical power dynamics.
    • Bridging the Gap: Best Practices for Serving Immigrant Communities
      In this training, participants will learn the importance of working with interpreters and gain a basic understanding of immigration statuses to better connect immigrants with appropriate resources. They will also increase their awareness of common barriers, enabling them to advocate for improved access to benefits.
    • Building Trust and Serving Immigrants: How to Implement Culturally Relevant Practices
      In this training, participants will explore how a cultural humility approach plays a key role in designing and implementing programs, as well as in establishing intentional helping relationships with immigrants.

 Training sessions are free of charge and facilitated by JFCS staff members with years of facilitation experience.
